In this section, you’ll find simple chord progressions used in well-known songs. All of them are given in the keys of C, D, G, and A Major, and each one features in at least the chorus, verse or often throughout the whole song listed. While there are hundreds of songs out there for each progression, we stick to a strict top-bangers-only policy. That means no endless scrolling through tracks you’ve never heard of. Every major key has a set of chords that work within them. This is great for you because it massively narrows down the number of chords you actually need to learn any given song. The chords are numbered 1-6 where the:

• 1st, 4th & 5th are major chords ⚪
• 2nd, 3rd and 6th are minor chords ⬜

(There's actually a 7th chord in each set called the "diminished" chord but they are very rarely used!)

You can also transpose any song into a different key — the pitch of the melody will change, but the identity of the song will still remain. Artists often do this to suit their vocal range. It means you can easily move a song into a key with chords you’re comfortable playing, and then if needed, use a capo to re-adjust the pitch.

Example:

You find a song in the key of E, you're not familliar with the chords, so you transpose it down to the key of D. You want to play it in the original key so put a capo on the 2nd fret, and you're back to playing in the key of E!
